Professional Interests

If you ask anyone who knows me well to describe my interests, they will more than likely mention computers. Although they are mostly accurate, I prefer to say that I am interested in what computers can do to enrich learning and provide access to information. As a result I have been involved in using new technologies for education for many years.

For example, I served on the Executive Board of CALICO (Computer-Aided Language Instruction Consortium) from 1992 to 1995. I am also a member of ACTFL, the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages and recently edited ACTFL's 1996 Volume in its Foreign Language Education Series entitled Technology-Enhanced Language Learning. The volume has been published by the National Textbook Company (NTC) and is available for purchase via their telephone ordering service at 1-800-770-1682.

I have found a new avenue for the writing on technology that I have been doing for several years now: developing a new Web site, Multimedia and Digital Commentary Online.

Current Pursuits

I am an Associate Professor of French and Instructional Psychology and Technology and do work in the following areas:

Things I Love

My wife and family top the list, of course.

I am very active in my church and pleased to be at Brigham Young University (BYU) (also my alma mater for my undergraduate degree). Skiing is my favorite sport. Paris is my favorite destination in the world.

Previous Experience

Prior to coming to BYU in 1992, I spent 20 years in the Air Force, retiring from the Air Force Academy where I spent most of my career. At the Academy I worked in the Department of Foreign Languages where I was instrumental in putting together their interactive videodisc-based language learning center.
